The MDA1 eViator, the all-electric regional aircraft developed by MD Aircraft, continues to gain momentum. A successful project meeting in Stade and the entry of Piper Deutschland AG as a new investor underline the strong position of the program and the growing confidence in its technology.
The team at MD Aircraft, a cooperation between Kasaero GmbH and MD Flugzeugbau GmbH, recently met in Stade to define key technical decisions and outline the strategic next steps in the development of the MDA1 eViator – an all-electric regional aircraft setting new standards in efficiency and sustainability.
Together, both partners contribute over 30 years of aviation experience. With its strong commitment and extensive expertise in aircraft development, Kasaero is driving the realization of the MDA1 eViator forward. Their shared goal is to elevate electric regional mobility to a new performance level and help shape a climate-neutral future for aviation.
Piper Deutschland AG joins as strategic investor
A key milestone for the program is the participation of Piper Deutschland AG as a strategic investor. The long-established company is the official representative of Piper Aircraft in Germany and ranks among Europe’s largest maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) organizations. With its investment in MD Aircraft, Piper Deutschland demonstrates its commitment to the transformation of aviation:
“The MDA1 eViator is a milestone for decentralized air mobility in Europe,” says Patrick Weilbach, CEO of Piper Deutschland AG. The partnership strengthens the technical and financial foundation of the project and adds valuable expertise in sales, maintenance, and customer support.
The MDA1 eViator is a clean-sheet design, developed for short takeoff and landing operations (<500 m), offering a range of approximately 400 km and seating for nine passengers. Its modular architecture makes it highly versatile. The combination of lightweight composite structures (CFRP/GFRP), swappable energy modules, and an aerodynamically optimized airframe ensures maximum efficiency in all-electric flight. The battery module system allows for quick pack replacement and is already designed with future energy carriers in mind – including hydrogen and E-fuel-based hybrid solutions – enabling flexible and scalable operations over time.
The aircraft already complies with EASA CS-23 certification standards, positioning it for regular commercial operation within the European regional aviation market.
Outlook: A solid foundation for the next steps
Growing confidence from investors and operators is reflected in 43 signed Letters of Intent (LOIs) and a steadily progressing funding round. The project partners are now preparing the next steps in the development process to continue advancing the MDA1 eViator and to set the course for upcoming milestones.
MD Aircraft invites partners and investors to join in shaping this journey. With a clear vision, proven technology, and a dedicated team, the project stands as a strong example of how to sustainably shape the future of regional aviation.
